The Serbian Quadrille, a composition that had once been commissioned by Prince Miloลก Obrenoviฤ, became a symbol of this historical connection.
Since 1842, Prince Miloลก had lived in Vienna and often attended its grand balls. In an effort to strengthen Serbiaโs cultural presence, he asked Johann Strauss II to compose a piece for the Slavonic Ball. That 1846 gathering brought together Serbian artists and intellectuals like Vuk Karadลพiฤ and Branko Radiฤeviฤ, along with Austrian nobles and diplomats.
